Someone officially needs to buy !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and import it to the states immediately!

Lancia Thema 8.32 with manual trans and the Ferrari engine! Not sure if the original power rear spoiler still works but it is Italian electrics, so probably not. All this Ital goodness at under $10K! (But then you have to deal with import costs...)

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Beautifully simple but packing a punch! (Ok, so it wasn’t that powerful an engine, but good noises because Ferrari...just hope that it doesn’t catch fire...)

So, have you found anything interesting on Goo Net that’s ready for import to the States?

Guessing it’s in Japan right now?

Edit: Yep, just saw for myself.

If it’s on Goo Net, you can probably assume Japan (I think...)

Lol I meant the styling of the car. Yeah, definitely not that Italian engineering...

That would be somewhat scary, if only they put like a reliable Ferrari V8 into it instead of an unreliable Ferrari V8.

I’m in love with those wheels!

Agreed. The subtle Ferrari badges are a great nod, but not something a random bystander would understand. They would probably just say something like: “Look at that poser with his Ferrari wheels!” Little do they know...

Import costs aren’t THAT high, surprisingly. Then again, it depends on the car. They usually suggest $1500-2000 depending where you live. A guy near me recently imported a Honda Beat from Japan for a grand total of $2500-ish including shipping (excluding customs costs/registration, etc), and I live in Nova Scotia, so that was shipping from Japan all the way down through the Panama Canal and back up, so pretty much around half the world.

The engine did get some modifications before it was showed into a Lancia. For example it has got a cross-plane crank instead of a flat-plane crank used in all (other) Ferrari V8s. Which is a bit boring fact.

Exactly what I was thinking... Suddenly it seems like more effort than it’s worth to put Celsior badges on a Lexus LS...I mean, this car is probably nicer than any used LS here in the states for under $10K but only if you can deal with the issue of RHD...

However, this Thema will probably bankrupt you in parts and fuel not to mention time stranded after something else goes wrong with its twenty five year old Italian electronics and engine...

Can someone actually explain to me the difference between cross and flat plane cranks? Is there any easy way to determine it just by engine specs?

Ah, hopefully that will actually do something.

Are you implying that there is such a thing as a reliable Ferrari V8?

Haha, maybe they’ve been keeping something from us all this time.

A flat-plane crank in a V8 looks like a crank in an inline four. A cross-plane crank is the normal crank for a V8 engine. It’s impossible to figure out this without seeing the crank, checking the firing order or hearing it run. There isn’t many production V8s that use a flat-plane crank but all V8’s in Ferraris belong to this group. And so does the new GT-350 Mustang.

A flat plane crank can be made a bit lighter but it is less balanced than the cross-plane V8 so it vibrates more.

To make things a bit messier some (Yamaha) motorbike inline fours use cross-plane cranks for different reasons.
